These Inmates Are Heroes To This Security Guard!

A group of prisoners in Georgia recently went from inmates to heroes when they rushed to the aid of a guard who had collapsed.

The corrections officer was supervising six inmates on a work detail at a cemetery in a remote area about an hour west of Atlanta. The weather was very hot and humid and the armed guard suddenly passed out and collapsed.

With no other guards around, the inmates could have easily taken the guard’s gun and van and made a run for it. But instead of fleeing, they banded together to save the officer’s life.

They opened his shirt and removed his bulletproof vest to cool him off. They then used his phone to call 911 and emergency workers soon arrived at the scene.

The inmates, who are all serving time for minor crimes, said the thought of escaping never occurred to them. One of them said, “When that happened, in my opinion, it wasn’t about who is in jail and who wasn’t. It was about a man going down, and we had to help him.”

The officer is said to be OK. His family showed its appreciation to the inmates by treating them to a special lunch.
