Scientists are reporting the existence of 15 new planets, including one “super Earth” that could harbor water.
These planets are orbiting small, cool stars that are near our solar system. They’re of interest for the studies of planetary formation and evolution. Experts at the Tokyo Institute of Technology say one of the planets may have an atmospheric composition that they’re calling “Earth-like” and could have liquid water.
Much more study is necessary to determine whether or not this planet is inhabitable, but scientists say this discovery is promising. The researchers caution that there’s no guarantee the earth-like planet can sustain life.
