It’s that time of year! Pumpkin spice everything is everywhere, and we’re not mad about it. And we hate to break it to you – but there’s a lot more that goes into pumpkin spice flavoring than just the pumpkins. In fact, the stuff that goes into pumpkin spice could be benefiting your health in all sorts of ways.
The stuff is made from cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and allspice. It’s the same stuff that goes into a pumpkin pie or your coveted PSL. Here are the benefits of these ingredients:
Cinnamon – Nothing’s set in stone, but there’s evidence to show that cinnamon may help with controlling blood sugar levels.
Nutmeg – This one’s been used to treat things like stomach issues, cancer, kidney disease, pain, and much more according to WebMD.
Ginger – Ginger is used to treat nausea. Oh, and step aside, painful periods!!
Cloves – It has some anesthetic qualities and is used to treat toothaches.
Allspice – Fox News claims that allspice has antioxidant, cancer-fighting, sedative, antiseptic, antiviral, and antifungal properties.
Pumpkin – High in fiber and with a ton of vitamin A, you’re going to want to get some pumpkin in your system.
Basically what we’re saying here is load up on your PSLs if you weren’t already well on your way. You’re bound to reap some of the benefits of these spices. But we don’t need to convince you to consume MORE pumpkin spice products. We’ve all got the pumpkin spice thing pretty much on lock.
