According to sources, Apple is reportedly working on a secret device that would help treat diabetes. CNBC reports that the tech giant has a small team of biomedical engineers have been working to quietly monitor blood sugar levels with no blood sample needed.

Sources say the super secret initiative, initially envisioned by the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, aims to develop sensors that can non-invasively and continuously monitor blood sugar levels to better treat diabetes.

Early trials on the technology are reportedly already being conducted in the San Francisco Bay area. Apple has been working on the project for at least five years, and if completed, it would be a major medical breakthrough.
