In Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a substitute teacher had more of an impact on her student’s life than she could have imagined when she donated a kidney to the mother of that student.
Donna Hoagland wasn’t even supposed to be Troy Volk’s fourth grade teacher. She was called in when Troy’s regular teacher took maternity leave.
It didn’t take long for Donna to realize that Troy was distracted about something. She learned that his mom was dealing with kidney trouble and her health was at risk.
Donna wanted to help, so she got tested to see if she was a match and, sure enough, everything checked out.
So, Donna went through with the donation over winter break, instantly improving the health of Troy’s mother and easing Troy’s mind.
Now with a healthy and energetic mother, Troy has been able to better focus on his schoolwork, thanks to an amazing act of charity from his substitute teacher.
